Corporate sponsorship, fundraising and membership

The 80 year old Flagship of the Cairns Maritime Museum represents 20 years of restoration and reconstruction by the active members of the Cairns Maritime Museum Community Organisation in FNQ. The vessel may just be a good idea to promote the water craft of our Far Northern Cultural heritage and remain in the hands of members into the future. To support this vision we have sought ongoing BSE maintenance sponsorship hence the request for another tidal cycle in the drydock.

Mabo day celebrations

Attending the TSRIC 25 year MABO day celebrations on 31/ 5 / 2017 was a great opportunity for the Cairns Maritime Museum to meet the TSRI Councillors and approach the subject of Identity Island Luggers. Recycling these Island Luggers is a positive move and fundraising is within reach of local authorities.
Mutually beneficial to all island sea country interests is a simple obligation to recycle and restore the weathering identity Island Luggers which will sustain abililies and rediscover the recently forgotten skillsets to maintain these remarkable sailing technologies.
Relevant technology today is defined by its scale, affordability, simplicity and non violent nature.
Effort and resources could quicken the result in recovering the few Luggers left, lean logic returns many happy returns.
Luggers are small scale. destruction is forever while even weathered identity Island Luggers are story-tellers.
Ideally a seaworthy story telling island identity vessel can be identified and maintained presently they are all too easily at risk of being lost. Unless all put all back together again for many happy returns this Twenty fifth Mabo day.
